The screening of “She is the Matador” moved the audience and awoke many emotions.

It was 7:10 pm and the lights dimmed in the first viewing room at the Cinematheque. The viewers looked impatient. Film director, Gemma Cubero, looks satisfied. The movie “She is the Matador” began.

Already five minutes into the projection you could see the smiles and admiration on the faces of the viewers who came to see the film, one in which Cubero experiments with the subject of gender equality: women can also be bullfighters, and she demonstrates this with the stories of Mari Paz Vega and Eva Florencia, who left everything for a dream and fought against the whole world to achieve it. Then came the credits. Everyone present stood up and applauded as a show of the film’s excellence.

With the lights back on, Gemma Cubero, accompanied by HBO Sports Producer Marisol González, got on stage and spoke about gender in television and in movies.

Cubero spoke about what the production of the movie had been like. It took eight hard years to finish the project. “The premiere, which took place in Mexico, with Mari Paz Vega, gave me great satisfaction.”

After thanking the spectators, she opened the floor to questions and it was immediately obvious how much the viewers liked and admired the film.

The screening ended after seven questions because the time ran out. Once again the spectators began to clap for two minutes straight saying goodbye to Gemma Cubero and wishing her good luck.
