Psychology Professor happy with the FUNGLODE inititative. By Gloriannie López
Regardless of age, profession or interests, people from all over Santo Domingo East were pleased with the third edition of the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival and agreed that the exhibitions were a milestone in this area.
Residents of the Eastern Zone said they felt privileged to have the opportunity to enjoy, close to home, so many high quality films that deal with important societal issues.
From issues and stories about immigrants to how to deal with situations in the world of love and romance, the audiences had a wide variety of films from which to choose.
Number One Supporter
Digna Matos, Psychology Professor at the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), confessed that she was the number one follower of the Festival. Ms. Matos was just about to enter the cinema to see, "Those who Remain", a award-winning film that won the prize for best documentary in Madrid 2009 and the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival as well as the Becca Gucci Ambulante 2008.
“I didn’t miss a single movie of the festival,” she affirmed enthusiastically. “I also encouraged my students to come and see the films in that they were very instructive, psychologically as well as socially.”
She was very thankful for the initiative to have expanded the Festival, in this case to Santo Domingo East. “This really gave everyone a chance to enjoy high quality films.”
The films are being shown at the Film Palace (Palacio del Cine) on Venezuela Avenue and will continue after the Festival ends until Wednesday November 25th.
