The program had been set for 7 pm in the Dominican film center and everything was ready for the screening. At the entrance, students eager to see the Colombian film to be shown were talking to Ciro Guerra, its producer, who was sitting on a sofa. A number of the students are interested in becoming filmmakers, adding weight to our III Dominican Republic Global Film Festival.
The words of the director of the center welcomed the film, the first to screen in the III Dominican Republic Global Film Festival. The audience was upbeat and eager for the film to start.
A Dominican short preceded the screening of The Wind Journeys. The Indelible Stain makes reference to a story by the well-known Dominican politician and writer, Juan Bosch, creating a rhythmic synchronicity between Colombian and Dominican reality, which in a broader sense, is that of the world.
“This film is about the unknown reality of Colombia, hidden even from the eyes of Colombians themselves,” said the film’s director before the screening. Afterward, he spoke with the audience.
The film, which runs 120 minutes, won a prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, said the director. “It was my biggest professional accomplishment.”
“The plot is simple compared to other stories, but it is true. One must chase one’s dreams despite everything, even when it requires making a wind journey,” expressed the director to applause.
