                Film Synopsis  - Short: 
                  Acclaimed director Susanne Bier returns with her most  powerful film yet, the Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film  AFTER THE WEDDING.  Jacob Peterson (Casino  Royal’s Mads Mikkelsen) has run an orphanage in India for the last 20 years. He is  reluctantly lured back to Denmark  to meet with a potential donor, the wealthy industrialist Jorgen (Rolf  Lassgard.  Once there, the affable Jorgen  insists Jacob attend Jorgen's beloved daughter's wedding, where Jacob  unwittingly walks into his past. 
              Film Synopsis - Long: 
                Acclaimed director Susanne Bier returns with her most  powerful film yet, the Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film,  AFTER THE WEDDING. Far from home, Jacob (Mads Mikkelsen), runs a struggling  orphanage in one India’s  s poorest regions. Desperate to save the orphanage from closure, he returns to Denmark  to meet Jorgen (Rolf Lassgard) a wealthy businessman and potential benefactor.  Jorgen offers Jacob a seemingly innocent invitation to attend his daughter’s  wedding. What appears to be nothing more than a friendly gesture sets in motion  an increasingly devastating series of surprises, revelations, and confessions  that will forever change their lives.  
              Mikkelsen who played the elegant arch villain in Casino  Royale, here displays the soulful sensitivity that led him to be voted the  sexiest man in Denmark.  Sweeping, yet entirely intimate,  AFTER  THE WEDDING boasts sharp direction, strong and nuanced performances, and a  tight script packed with unexpected revelations --- it is  a  shattering portrait of a family struggling with the fragility of life and the  search for connection, healing, and forgiveness.
