Wes Anderson
Wes Anderson has been working on films with actor/writer Owen Wilson since the two met as students at the University of Texas in the early 1990s. Out of college, the two wrote and Anderson directed the comedy Bottle Rockets (first as a short, then as a feature in 1996).  Anderson and Owen then reached a wider audience with Rushmore (1998, with Bill Murray) and The Royal Tenenbaums (2001, with Gwyneth Paltrow).

Alberto Arvelo
Alberto Arvelo’s work has received numerous accolades at some of the world’s most prestigious film festivals. His film A House With a View of the Sea won more than 15 international awards, including best director at the New York Latino Film Festival and the Miami Hispanic Film Festival. HĂ©ctor Babenco
Héctor Babenco was born in Buenos Aires. After moving to Brazil, he made his first documentary, The Fabulous Fittipaldi (73), which was followed by the feature film, King of the Night (75). He achieved international acclaim with his 1981 feature, Pixote, the Law of the Weakest. His other films include Lúcio Flávio, Passenger of Agony (77), Kiss of the Spider Woman (85), Ironweed (87), At Play in the Fields of the Lord (91), Foolish Heart (98), Carandiru (03) and El Pasado (07).

Jennifer Baichwal
aJennifer Baichwal was born in Montreal and grew up in Victoria, British Columbia. Her first feature documentary, Let it Come Down: The Life of Paul Bowles, won an International Emmy in 1999. The True Meaning of Pictures, her feature on the work of Appalachian photographer Shelby Lee Adams, was shown at the Toronto and Sundance film festivals. Her next project, the feature documentary Act of God, began production in fall 2006.

Javier Balaguer
aJavier Balaguer has worked in film for the past twenty years. He began his career as an assistant director in such films as: “El Dorado,” “Indiana Jones 3,” “El Perro del Hortelano” (The Dog in the Manger) and “The Return of the Three Muskeeters.” Mr. Balaguer also worked as Production Chief in “The Inheritance,” and Locations Manager in “James Bond: The World in Not Enough,” among others. Balaguer wrote and directed “Sólo Mía” (Mine Alone) in 2001 and “Escuela de Sedución” (School of Seduction) in 2004. His latest film, “Oriundos de la Noche” (“Natives of the Night” Dominican Republic, 2007) will open at the 2007 FUNGLODE Film Festival

Susanne Bier
aSusanne Bier has directed award-winning films including, Freud’s Leaving Home (1990), Family Matters (1993), Like It Never Was Before (1995), Credo (1997), The One and Only (1999), Once in a Lifetime (2000) and the critically acclaimed Open Hearts (2002), which won five Robert and three Bodil awards. Susanne’s film, Brothers (2004) screened at Sundance, Toronto, San Sebastian, and London festivals and received numerous awards and nominations, including six nominations at the European Film Awards.

Sergio M. Castilla
aSergio M. Castilla studied film in France. He participated actively in the Chilean film community during Allende’s government; and was in exile during the Pinochet regime. Castilla has produced and directed eight features and a number of shorts, which have screened in leading film festivals, including New York Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival and opening night at New Directors New Films at MoMA. Over the years, he taught film directing for the Graduate Program at Columbia University.

Raquel Cepeda
aRaquel Cepeda is an award-winning editor and multi-media journalist, and filmmaker. She is of Dominican descent. She served as a creative consulting producer on From Mambo to Hip-Hop (for PBS 2007). Raquel Cepeda's book "And It Don't Stop: The Best Hip-Hop Journalism of the Last 25 Years," the first ever “Best of...” anthology won a 2005 PEN Beyond Margins Award and Best Arts Book from the Latino Book Awards. Over the span of twelve years, Cepeda has contributed to People, The Associated Press, Paper, Village Voice and other nationally distributed publications, MTV News, USA Weekend, Vibe, GQ, SPIN, and many others. Cepeda served as editor in chief of Russell Simmons' Oneworld Magazine where she won awards for her redesign of the bi-monthly glossy, and was the founder and Executive Producer of Content and Editor-in-Chief of the very first online destination dedicated to young multicultural women. Cepeda is currently in production on three more film projects.

Emmanuel Criasele
aA Rome-based director of Sicilian origin, EMANUELE CRIALESE was born in 1965. In 1991, he moved to America to study directing at New York University, and after making various shorts, he shot his first feature Once We Were Strangers, which was selected for the 1997 Sundance Film Festival. Crialese's second feature, Respiro, was the winner of two awards at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. Set on the rugged, sun-drenched island of Lampedusa, the film features an outstanding performance from actress Valeria Golino. Enthusiastically acclaimed in France, Respiro was sold to over 30 territories worldwide and became an enormous hit in Italy.

Sean Fine y Andrea Nix
aWar/Dance is Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine's directorial debut .The husband and wife team has filmed in more than 30 countries to bring powerful human stories to the screen for National Geographic and formed Fine Films in 2003. Honors include an Emmy, a Chris Award, and honorable mentions at the New York Film Festival and the Missoula Wildlife Film Festival.

Kieran Fitzgerald
aKieran Fitzgerald (Writer/Director/Editor) directed several short films as an undergraduate at Harvard University. He has worked as a production assistant for The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada and Colour Me Kubrick, and directed a documentary short titled Being Alan Conway about the man who impersonated Stanley Kubrick during the 1990’s. The Ballad of Esequiel Hernández is his first feature-length documentary film.

Paul Haggis
aPaul Haggis was born in London, Ontario, and has been writing, producing and directing television series such as thirtysomething and EZ Streets since the seventies. His screenwriting credits include Million Dollar Baby (04), which won the Academy Award® for best picture, The Last Kiss (06), Flags of Our Fathers (06), Casino Royale (06) and Letters from Iwo Jima (06). His directorial debut, Crash (04), which he also wrote and produced, won Academy Awards for best picture and best original screenplay. In the Valley of Elah (07) is his second feature as a director.

Marion Hänsel
aMarion Hänsel made her first short with Man’s Films, the production company she established in 1977. The film The Bed marked her feature-length directorial debut. In 1987, the award-winning director, writer and producer was named Belgium’s “Woman of the Year.” From 1988 through 1990, she was elected president of the French Community Film Selection Board, and was reelected in 1996-1997 and in 2002-2003.

Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck
aBorn in 73 in Cologne, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck grew up in New York and West Berlin. In 1996, he won a directing internship with Richard Attenborough on the set of "In Love and War". He went on studying writing and directing at Munich Film Academy, where he made several award-winning shorts. For his feature film debut Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) he won the European Film Award 2006 for Best Film and Best Screenplay, the 2007 Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Jorge Hernández Aldana
aAfter studying Electronic Engineering, at 23 years old Jorge Hernández, decided to start a career in film. He studied cinematography in Cuba (fotografía ¿?? Check if this is cinematography?). Después se mudó a Polonia, para poder estudiar en Lodz. Fue seleccionado y premiado en diversos festivales alrededor del mundo con su cortometraje Un Primer Paso Sobre las Nubes. Con una gran experiencia en la realización de series de televisión, cortometrajes y comerciales en Polonia, Venezuela y México, ahora Jorge Hernández dirige su opera prima El Búfalo de la Noche.

LeĂłn Ichaso

Rory Kennedy

Alejandro Landes
aAlejandro Landes was born in Brazil and grew up in Ecuador. He graduated from Brown University in 2003, and after a stint writing for a U.S. newspaper and a weekly television show, traveled to Bolivia to shoot Cocalero, his first feature film.

Francisco Lombardi
aThe most internationally recognized contemporary Peruvian filmmaker Lombardi studied direction and cinematography in Lima and began making short films in 1974. In 1985 he directed his second feature La Ciudad y Los Perros (The City and the Dogs) which premiered at several international film festivals making him one of the top Spanish language directors of the decade. Mariposa Negra (Black Butterfly) is Lombardi's 13th film and the first part of a planned trilogy.

Diego Luna
aDIEGO LUNA began his professional acting career on stage at the age of seven, and by the age of 12 had made his television debut in the Mexican soap opera El Abuelo y Yo. In 2000 he performed in Oscar®-nominated film Before Night Falls. He then went on to star opposite childhood friend Gael Garcia Bernal in Alfonso Cuaron's Y Tu Mamá También. Latest films are Korine's Mr. Lonely, El Búfalo de la Noche (The Night Buffalo) and Sólo Dios Sabe (What God Knows). These last two films mark Luna's foray into producing, and both premiered at the Sundance Film Festival

Vivien Lesnik Weisman
aVivien Lesnik Weisman was born in Havana, Cuba. She graduated from Barnard College with a B.A. in Art History and New York Law School with a Doctorate in Jurisprudence. She went on to receive an MFA in directing from the UCLA School of Film and Television. She has received numerous awards for her short films including the prestigious UCLA Spotlight Award for Best Dramatic Short, the Houston Film Festival Best Short Award and a Golden Eagle for Excellence in Latino Filmmaking. This is her first documentary.

Paulo Morelli
aBrazilian born Paulo Morelli studied architecture in the 80s when he founded, with several friends, the Olhar Eletronico film company which spearheaded independent TV production. In 1991 he founded 02 Films along with Fernando Meirelles and Andrea Barata Ribeiro. In addition to making commercials, he directed the Ethics series - broadcast in 1995. His short film, Tombstone (1997) won awards in Havana, Los Angeles, Rio and Sao Paulo. His first feature, The Price of Peace (1999), based on Baron of Serro Azul´s story, won the Popular Jury Award at the Gramado Festival in 2003. His situation comedy Speaker Phone won for Best Foreign Film in New York´s Indie Festival (2003). Still active in the City of Men Project, he acted as general director for its third and final season. Morelli is currently developing seven feature-length screenplays revolving around the same theme.

Mohammed Naqvi
aMohammed Naqvi was born in Montreal and grew up in Canada, the United States and Pakistan. His short films include Time (99), Night (99) and Hide (04). He also directed the documentary Terror’s Children (03) ), which launched the Discovery Times Channel. Shame (06) is his first feature-length documentary.

Sarah Polley
aSarah Polley is one of Canada’s most prolific actors. She starred in: Atom Egoyan’s award-winning The Sweet Hereafter, Michael Winterbottom’s The Claim, Kathryn Bigelow’s The Weight of Water, David Cronenberg’s Existenz, Hal Hartley’s No Such Thing, Thom Fitzgerald’s The Event, Isabel Coixet’s My Life Without Me, Dawn of The Dead, Wim Wenders Don’t Come Knocking. Sarah Polley has been writing and directing in Canada since1999. She has directed The Best Day of My Life, and then wrote, directed and produced Don’t Think Twice, and I Shout Love. Her films have screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and Sundance Film Festivals.

Patricia Riggen
aPatricia Riggen was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and received an M.F.A. in screenwriting and directing from Columbia University. She served as a creative executive for the Mexican Film Institute, where she produced and co-produced several short films, documentaries and commercials. She became the first Mexican to ever win a Student Academy Award® with her first short film, The Cornfield (02). Her follow-up, Family Portrait (04), won the Jury Prize in short filmmaking at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. Under the Same Moon (07) is her feature film debut.

Carlos SorĂ­n
aCarlos SorĂ­n was born in Buenos Aires in 1944. His first feature, La pelĂ­cula del rey, won the Argentine Critics Prize for best debut in 1987. In 2002 Historias MĂ­nimas won awards at the Havana, Cartagena and San Sebastian film festivals, as well as Spain's Goya Award for Best Spanish-Language Foreign Film. The Road to San Diego won the Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

Annie Sundberg y Ricki Stern
aAnnie Sundberg and Ricki Stern recently co-directed and co-produced the award-winning documentary The Trials of Darryl Hunt a production of Break Thru Films. The Trials of Darryl Hunt was short-listed for the 2007 Academy Awards for Best Documentary Feature, and was a 2007 Independent Spirit Award nominee for Best Documentary. That film won awards at more than twenty festivals to date, and premiered on HBO in spring 2007, with theatrical release (ThinkFilm) in summer 2007.

Christopher Zalla
aChristopher Zalla was born in Kisumu, Kenya, and spent much of his youth overseas. He received an MFA, with honors, from Columbia University's Graduate Film Division, where he was awarded a full departmental research assistant fellowship. He recently wrote the script for Marching Powder, a film produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment. Padre Nuestro is his first film.
