GFDD and FUNGLODE Participate in NALIP Conference 9: Sin Límites: Trends in Pan-Latino Cinema

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), attended the NALIP Conference 9: Sin Límites: Trends in Pan-Latino Cinema, which took place March 7-9, 2008 at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott in Dana Point, California.
GFDD and FUNGLODE participated in the event to promote the 2008 Dominican Republic Global Film Festival, as well as the initiatives realized by the Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI). GFDD and FUNGLODE, represented by Taína Rodríguez, had the opportunity to become familiar with the latest cinematographic trends, first-hand from some of the most innovative industry professionals, and vanguard projects to date, in an effort to take away valuable lessons that will contribute to the growth and development of GFDD and FUNGLODE’s projects in the area of audiovisual arts, in particular, programs and activities developed and implemented by GMAI. The conference offered a wide array of seminars and workshops pertaining to diverse aspects of the Latino multimedia industry such as:
- Actor Marketing
- The Latino Media Market
- Advocacy and Hate Speech
- Pan-Latino Cinema with Global Appeal
- Documentary Pitch Sessions
The forum also featured screenings of the films: La Misma Luna, directed by Patricia Riggen, and case studies of the new Maya Picture films: August Evening, Maldeamores, and The Startup. Participation in NALIP is a must for all professionals affiliated with the development of the rising Latino film industry. NALIP, the National Association of Latino Independent Producers, is committed to promoting the advancement and funding of Latino film and multimedia productions, and seeks to raise awareness of issues of historic and cultural importance to the Latino community. The conference presented the opportunity for professional networking and the exchange of ideas concerning the present state of the Latino cinematographic industry, and its interests and possibilities. DRGFF plays a leading role in nurturing film culture in the Dominican Republic by bringing the best of international narrative and documentary film to a wide audience. The Festival raises awareness and deepens understanding of global challenges while using film as a modern platform for the discussion of political, social and economic issues. It supports capacity building, provides network opportunities for Dominican professionals and fosters the development of a strong and sustainable national film industry.
