DRGFF
Supports Celebration of First Dominican Film
Screening in Nagua
Santo Domingo, January 28,
2009The Dominican Republic Global Film
Festival, an initiative of Global Foundation for
Democracy and Development (GFDD)
and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE),
is lending support to Nagua’s First Dominican Film
Screening, being celebrated January 28 – February 1,
2009. The Festival is providing the technical
support in the form of human resources needed to
screen the films.
This past Wednesday, members of the Festival team,
Omar de la Cruz, Yamile Eusebio, Paul Goris and
Yanny Sanchez, participated in the inauguration of
the event, which took place at Universidad Autónoma
de Santo Dominigo’s Centro Regional de Nagua (CURNA)
and featured the premier of the film Pasaje de
ida.
Yamile Eusebio, DRGFF Local Production Director,
highlighted the importance of organizing such
cultural activities for the public. She emphasized
that the cinematographic event is the continuation
of the work realized by DRGFF in November 2008
during the second edition of the Festival, which
took place in the city of Nagua and also in Santo
Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata and Higüey. “The
Festival received great reception from the city’s
residents,” commented Eusebio. The DRGFF Local
Production Director also expressed gratitude towards
CURNA Director Ramón Amparo and Provincial Director
of the Ministry of Culture Julián Guzmán for
including DRGFF in the celebration of this exciting
initiative.
In addition to the CURNA Director and the Provincial
Director of Culture, Governor of the Province María
Trinidad Sánchez, Aristide Victoria Yeb; Plan Social
de la Presidencia Representative in Nagua, Caonabo
Reynoso; and Director of the film Pasaje de ida,
Agliberto Meléndez also participated in the
cinematographic celebration.
DRGFF plays a leading role in nurturing film culture
in the Dominican Republic by bringing the best of
international narrative and documentary film to a
wide audience. The Festival raises awareness and
deepens understanding of global challenges while
using film as a modern platform for the discussion
of political, social and economic issues. It
supports capacity building, provides network
opportunities for Dominican professionals and
fosters the development of a strong and sustainable
national film industry.
