Dominican President Leonel Fernández, attended the screening of Ishtar Yasin´s film
Dominican President Leonel Fernández attended the screening of Ishtar Yasín Gutiérrez´s film, The Path, held at the Mauricio Báez Cultural Center in Villa Juana on Thursday as part of the II Dominican Global Film Festival.
Ishtar Yasín, born in Moscow to an Iraqi father and Chilean-Costa Rican mother, is a citizen of the world. Ms. Yasín directed the film which relates the sad story of two Nicaraguan children Soslaya and her brother Dario, who emigrate to Costa Rica in search of their mother whom they haven´t seen in years.
"When I was very young we had to flee from Chile to Costa Rica after the military coup. The phenomenon of migration marked me for life. I wanted to show the effects of it through the eyes of children. It is a very personal story,” said Ishtar during the presentation of the film, confirming the introspective elements in it.
Under the slogan, “Global Issues, Personal Stories,” FUNGLODE is attempting to expose viewers to the global challenges facing the world today and to raise consciousness through these films. This is exactly what The Path does.
