Dominican Republic presents first International Film festival

“DR Global Film Festival (DRGFF)” will run from November 8th to 12th and will feature an international selection of dramatic and documentary films by internationally acclaimed filmmakers

Among other stars, it is already confirm that actor and director Andy García, and actors like Enrique Murciano, Néstor Carbonell, Steven Bauer, Joseph Drago, Juan Fernández, Gonzalo Menéndez, as well as actress Dominik García-Lorido

The Festival seeks to raise awareness and deepen understanding of global issues and promote the industry in the country

Miami, FL, October 19 2006. - Next November, Dominican Republic will open the doors to the best of the world cinematography with the “DR Global Film Festival (DRGFF)”. The five-day event will run from November 8th to 12th and will feature an international selection of dramatic and documentary films by internationally acclaimed filmmakers.

The Festival is organized by Fundación Global Democracia y Desarollo (FUNGLODE) http://www.funglode.org/FunglodeApp and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) www.globalfoundationdd.org, and aspires to play a leading role in nurturing and enriching the film culture of the Dominican Republic and bring cinema to a broad variety of audiences. “Under the subtitle “Global Issues, Personal Stories”, the Festival seeks to raise awareness and deepen understanding of global issues through stories about events and people that have shaped our lives.

The mission of the event is to reach out to students and young people and to give them the tools and the information to become engaged and concerned citizen of the world, to use film as a medium for enhancing social awareness and to offer business and creative networking opportunities to local and foreign filmmaker in the country.

In that sense, DRGFF complements as a part of the festival, a number of social and educational activities that will create opportunities for networking, learning and sharing of ideas. After the gala opening night, multiple daily screenings, workshops and discussion panels with directors, actors, filmmakers and industry leaders will follow.

The Festival’s creation and mission have been guided by the vision of the President of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Leonel Fernández, who is at the same time the Founder and the Honorary President of FUNGLODE/GFDD. Among other stars, it is already confirm that actor and director Andy García.

The showing will be officially open with the movie “The Lost City”, directed by Andy García, announced for Wednesday, November 8, at the prestigious National Theater, followed by an Opening Night Party.
