DRGFF Website Nominated for “Oscars of the Internet”

The DR Global Film Festival (DRGFF) has been nominated for The 11th Annual Webby Award and The 11th Annual Webby People’s Voice Award, in the category of Events and Live Broadcasts. DRGFF represents one of five nominees in the category. Over 8,000 entries were considered for nominations in over 100 categories.

The Webby Awards, recognized by the New York Times as the “Oscars of the Internet,” are international awards that acknowledge excellence in interactive media projects in the areas of: Website, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video, and Mobile Websites. The Webby Awards were established in 1996 by the Academy of Digital Arts and Science, comprised of a group of 500 experts representing diverse fields, such as: musician David Bowie, “Simpsons” creator Matt Groening, Real Networks CEO Rob Glaser, and Anita Roddick, president of The Body Shop. The Webby Award is awarded by the Academy of Digital Arts and Science; previous award winners include: The New York Times, BBC News, CNN, Google, and ESPN.

While the Webby Award is determined by the Academy of Digital Arts and Science, the Webby People’s Voice Award is determined by the online public. Votes may be made online between April 10th and April 27th at: http://peoplesvoice.webbyawards.com

The DR Global Film Festival website was an international effort, developed in 2006 by The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE). It serves as an interactive means of disseminating DRGFF’s mission to bring innovative dramatic and documentary film to the Dominican Republic that draws attention to poignant social issues. Babel, Pan's Labyrinth, Volver, and Water, were some of the many films showcased at the 2006 DR Global Film Festival. We invite you to visit our website at www.drglobalfilmfestival.org,
