Burkina, Africa, March 11, 2011
Directors of the the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival visited Burkina Faso to attend the 22nd edition of the Pan African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO).
Directors of the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF) attended the the Pan African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) with the idea of establishing contacts in other regions of the world as well as to become familiar with programs and other initiatives being carried out in the areas of film and culture. Representing the DRGFF was Festival Director, Omar de la Cruz, and Claire Guillemin, coordinator of the Study Center for French Civilization and FUNGLODE’s Francofonia.
This year’s Pan African Festival, “FESPACO 2011: African Film and Markets” took place from February 26 to March 2, 2011 in Burko Faso’s capital Ouagadougou where it is held every two years.
There are several areas of competition at FESPACO. In addition to the best general African film section, there are competing films in the following genres: best film from the Diaspora, a short films section, best documentary and best made-for-TV film. There is also a competition for movies made by film students.
Organizers of FESPACO are interested in developing links with Latin America, overcoming the language barrier in the process. In any case, FESPACO is already a bilingual initiative (French and English) which will serve to facilitate its opening to the Latin American region.
