Omar de la Cruz, Director del DRGFF and Yvette Marichal, Director of Public Relations, were part of the Dominican team at the Festival where they ran into executives of DGCINE and Indomina.
Directors of the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF) participated in the most recent edition of the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF), one of the most important venues for the screening of movies made by young Latin American filmmakers.
Omar de la Cruz, Director of the DRGFF, and Yvette Marichal, Director of Public Relations and Marketing, attended LALIFF which took place from July 17-25.
Others participating in the event included Indomina’s Executive Director, Jasbinder Singh; Ellis Pérez, of the General Directorate of Cinema (DGCINE) and Jaime Piña, filmmaker and executive of Indomina.
Throughout the Festival, members of the Dominican delegation did lots of networking to meet with outstanding Latin filmmakers.
At the same time, they took advantage of the large numbers of attendees at the Festival to spread the word about the new Dominican Film Law; they talked it up to producers, directors, film industry agents and professionals in general.
This year was LALIFF’s fifteenth anniversary which was celebrated by consolidating its commitment to film by showing features, documentaries, short films and special high quality projections.
The films shown at the Festival represent a wide variety of movies on Latin culture. In addition, the Festival holds many competitions to keep things moving with several contests for participants to choose from. There are also ample business opportunities for buyers and film producers.
The mission of the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival is to get to know, to promote and to support existing and emerging creative Latin filmmakers with diverse visions in the United States as well as internationally. It also serves as a springboard and catalyst for the promotion and distribution of films from Latin America.
