Film Synopsis

This is the story of Martin Gonzalez (played by Manolo Cardona), aka Fresita, whose mother is working in the U.S. and sending money home. Martin, desperate for money, tells his best friend Pepe Cadena (Diego Cadavid) to ask his older brother Oscar Cadena (Fernando Solórzano) and head of the Pacific Cartel, to help get him into the business from the ground floor, the so-called kitchens. He does that and Martin has to go to work every day after school.

Eventually, after five years, he becomes a key figure in the business and a major drug dealer.

With the biggest Colombian kingpin, Pablo Escobar, off the national scene, a new cartel begins to take shape – the Pacific Cartel. Now the most dangerous in Colombia, it is led by Oscar Cadena who makes a friendship and business pact with Martin Gonzalez.

Martin, now a very rich man, falls for the beautiful Sophia (Juana Acosta), to whom he has to lie about how he makes his money. She soon discovers the source of his wealth and forces him to choose between her and his illegal trade. Oscar, in partnership with Colonel Ramiro Gutierrez (Saul Lizaso) helps the Colombian police bring down the Southern Cartel. Ramiro convinces Oscar to surrender on the promise that he will receive a sentence reduction. Before surrendering Oscar orders his brother Pepe and his friend Martin to go to Miami. Martin travels to the U.S. with Sophia and her children. What he doesn’t realize is that the US is not a safe place for drug dealers. Nevertheless he has to continue with his illegal activities, seeing his old friends as well as his enemies.

Where Martin Gonzalez ends his version of the story of the drug cartels, Pepe Cadena picks it up and tells what happened during the next four years: how he managed to get out of jail in New York under the pretense of cooperating with the DEA, his experience as an informer working with Anesthesia, his escape to Colombia, and the moment he was arrested again and put in jail.

Dirty war, crime, betrayal, death, persecution, "turning," drug deals, dangerous alliances, dark business, family and impossible love stories are the ingredients for The Renacuario. This is a revealing x-ray of social problems such as drug trafficking which eventually controls the destiny of those trapped in its web, along with their families and friends.
