In addition to being organized by non-profit organizations, the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival is distinguished for its role in promoting the DR as an excellent location to make and produce films, thus contributing to the Country's economic growth and competitiveness.
Mission
The Dominican Global Film Festival presents a selection of the best international, dramatic and documentary films to enrich the country’s film culture and to bring the seventh art into all sectors of Dominican society. The Festival contributes to raising awareness and understanding of global issues through stories about events and people that have left a mark on our lives. It uses film as a way to promote and encourage discussion about social issues, politics and economics.

To show a wide variety of films that are generally not available to the Dominican public.

The Dominican Republic Global Film Festival is proud to honor and dedicate this year´s 5th edition of the Festival to María Montez, the first Dominican actress to achieve fame in Hollywood as she became a reference for filmmaking worldwide. Next year, 2012, is the 100 year anniversary of the birth of María Montez, “the Queen of Technicolor.” For that reason, the Dominican Global Film Festival has honor to of placing her name first on this year´s list of Tributes.
We are equally proud to welcome other national and international film and entertainment greats to this Festival. Welcome Geraldine Chaplin, Danny Glover, Vin Diesel, Agliberto Meléndez, Moctesuma Esparza and Rafael Solano.

Audience Awards (for best dramatic film and best documentary film), to be selected by ballot after each screening.

Film Synopsis
A group of high school sophomores enjoy many adventures throughout tenth grade. Stuck between "kid-hood" and adulthood, the close-knit group burst into their most formative year of high school. They're joined by Mr. McKee, the newly hired janitor of the school, as he weaves his way through the hallways, mop in hand, observing the exploits of his sophomore son Jeremy and his lively gang of friends. Inside the classroom, their beloved American history teacher, Cap, wants life to be just as much fun in the class as it is outside the school walls, while Miss Hutz, their feared math teacher, would rather everyone shut up and sit still.
While Jeremy and Lucille get inspired by Cap, their buddy Lionel plots revenge on Miss Hutz, only to find himself locked in her bathroom with his pants down. Meanwhile, Pam takes her buddy Eddie on a beer run in the dead of winter.
All's good, except for her mischievous little dog, Puffy, and Pam's minor inconvenience of not having a driver's license. In the center of it all is Sam, who's waited fifteen long years to get his chance to ambush the freshmen on "Freshman Friday." His older brother, "Blank," may act as a pseudo mentor to the sophomores, but his main goal for senior year is to date every Asian girl in tenth grade. Along the way, a group of seventh graders, known as "The Strummers", led by the little "Casanova" Bob, plot an "end of the year" sleepover at their buddy Lenny's house.
They like Lenny, but it doesn't hurt that his gorgeous older sister, Honey, sometimes sleepwalks with her shirt off. They learn their lessons, meet new loves, and discover new things. By the end of the year, whether they're a sophomore, Strummer, teacher, or parent, one thing is for sure, they're not freshmen anymore.
Director's Biography
T. Lee Beideck is writer/director/producer of “Sophomore.” His debut feature film, “Drivers Wanted,” a rowdy comedy about pizza delivery drivers, garnered high praise from skateboarding legend, Tony Hawk, and director John Landis (“Animal House,” “Blues Brothers”).
Beideck also writes, plays guitar and sings for his band Burning Snella, which has contributed several songs to the soundtracks of his films.
