In addition to being organized by non-profit organizations, the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival is distinguished for its role in promoting the DR as an excellent location to make and produce films, thus contributing to the Country's economic growth and competitiveness.
Mission
The Dominican Global Film Festival presents a selection of the best international, dramatic and documentary films to enrich the country’s film culture and to bring the seventh art into all sectors of Dominican society. The Festival contributes to raising awareness and understanding of global issues through stories about events and people that have left a mark on our lives. It uses film as a way to promote and encourage discussion about social issues, politics and economics.

To enrich the film culture of the Dominican Republic.
To show a wide variety of films that are generally not available to the Dominican public.

The Dominican Republic Global Film Festival is proud to honor and dedicate this year´s 5th edition of the Festival to María Montez, the first Dominican actress to achieve fame in Hollywood as she became a reference for filmmaking worldwide. Next year, 2012, is the 100 year anniversary of the birth of María Montez, “the Queen of Technicolor.” For that reason, the Dominican Global Film Festival has honor to of placing her name first on this year´s list of Tributes.
We are equally proud to welcome other national and international film and entertainment greats to this Festival. Welcome Geraldine Chaplin, Danny Glover, Vin Diesel, Agliberto Meléndez, Moctesuma Esparza and Rafael Solano.

Audience Awards (for best dramatic film and best documentary film), to be selected by ballot after each screening.

This year the 3rd annual Short Film Contest of the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival has accepted 44 films among nearly 100 entries
Dominican Global Film Festival Announces the Opening of this Year´s 5th Edition in the Venue Cities
Directors of the DRGFF held press conferences in Higüey, Nagua, Puerto Plata and Santiago.
Directors of the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF) spent this week traveling between Higüey, Nagua, Puerto Plata and Santiago to announce the opening of this year´s 5th edition of the Film Festival, to be held from November 15 to 20, 2011.
In various press conferences, Omar de la Cruz, Director of the DRGFF, along with directors of the Regional University Centers of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) hosting the Festival, invited everyone to enjoy this unique chance to see the numerous films on offer throughout this five-day cinema event.
There will be film screenings at the regional university centers in all of the cities hosting of the Festival. In Santiago and Higüey, there will also be screenings at the Film Palace (Palacio del Cine) and in Puerto Plata at the Galaxia Cinema (Cine Galaxia).
Festival directors announced that during the Festival, there will be a traveling “tour of the Dominican Film Law” which will be providing detailed information about the reach of new Film Law and its benefits for each area of the country as a potential filming location. The tour will encourage filmmakers, the media and the general public “to ask questions, to clear up any doubts and to take total advantage of these informative panels.”
Mr. De la Cruz took the opportunity at each press conference to motivate and encourage those interested in the seventh art to try their hand at making short films, explaining that this is the best place to start learning how to make movies that could end in longer feature films.
Festival activities in each venue will start in the morning when high school and college students will be invited to panels and workshops where the goal will be to stimulate all aspects of cinema training and education.
De la Cruz invited everyone interested in the Dominican Global Film Festival to go to the official webpage at www.festivaldecineglobal.org and to check out the social networking places at www.facebook.com/FestivalCineGlobalDominicano for updated information about the film competition including the entire programming of films, workshops and panels being offered at the Festival, between November 15-20, 2011.
