Geraldine Chaplin and Danny Glover to be among Stars at 5th Dominican Republic Global Film Festival

Some of the first details of the upcoming Film Festival were announced by Festival directors at a press conference. The 5th edition of this major film event will be held from November 15 to 20 in Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Higüey, Nagua and Cap Cana.

The Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF) announced that Geraldine Chaplin and Danny Glover will be attending this year’s 5th edition of the Festival, which will take place from November 15 to 20.  Other well-known stars attending will be announced at a later date.

Omar de la Cruz, Director of the DRGFF, and Yvette Marichal, Director of Public Relations and Marketing, made the announcement together at the first press conference offered by DRFGG organizers in which they elaborated details about the event that will be held in various places simultaneously around the country: Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Higüey, Nagua, Cap Cana and Port au Prince, Haiti.

The directors of the most important film event in the Caribbean announced they will show 50 feature films and documentaries and hold more than 30 professional and thematic panels throughout the six days of the Festival. They also said that money collected in ticket sales will be donated to shelters in the city of Santiago.
  
De la Cruz and Marichal urged reporters who plan to cover to event to apply for their accreditation on the Festival webpage: www.festivaldecineglobal.org  They also invited the general public to enjoy the cultural event which, as in years past, will be hosting school children and college students in all of its venues in six cities around the country. This year’s celebration will be dedicated to Dominican actress Maria Montes. Turquoise blue will be the representative color this year in honor of its fifth anniversary.

De la Cruz pointed to the growth and consolidation the Festival has achieved since its first year which is evidenced by the more than 100 applications to take part in the 3rd DRGFF Short Film Competition. Forty four films were accepted. Of these, 11 finalists will be shown on all the stages during the Festival. Finally, the three winners will be announced on the closing day of the Festival, November 20th.  

Marichal invited people to follow all the events leading up to and including the Festival on “Rumbo al Festival” television program that will begin broadcasting this Thursday, September 29, at 11 PM on Digital 15, the official Film Festival channel.

Others present at the press conference included the Executive Director of the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), Marco Herrera; the Director of Corporate Communication from Claro, Gerty Valeiro; Evelyn Batista, from the Telemicro Group; Simón Mahfoud, from Seguros Constitución, among others.

As in past Festivals, the National Theater, the Pedro Mir Library of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, the Film Palace, the auditorium of the Mauricio Báez Cultural Center and the auditorium of the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) will serve as film screening venues in Santo Domingo and will also be where panels and acting workshops will be offered throughout the course of the Festival.
