Academy Award winner George Clooney (UP IN THE AIR, THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS) plays Jack, an incredibly fit, ready for hire gun man who trusts no one. Jack figures out he is being targeted by “The Swedes”, a group of assassins he believes are his enemies thus leading to a chase that will push him to the limit.
Jack meets Father Benedetto and falls for Clara, a young prostitute, while hiding near the Abruzzo mountains in Italy. Jack has grown tired of being lonely; he lets his feelings get the best of him in a profession that won’t let him get near anyone without risking their lives or his own. Anton Corbijn’s background in photography helps him solidify the film; he creates a world in which beauty and disaster not only coexist, but they need each other in order for the movie to flourish.
Corbijn’s sophomore effort, THE AMERICAN, is an action-packed thriller about a killer running away from his rivals while his past hunts him down. Sweden and Italy provide the lush landscapes while Corbijn’s camera savvy eye captures the essence of a story about repentance and redemption
