Jury Begins Evaluating 50 Entries for Second Annual Short Film Competition
Santo Domingo, October 19, 2010
With the massive participation of young filmmakers, the II Dominican Short Film Competition is now in the selection stage in which 11 films, out of the 50 entries, will be chosen in this first round of the contest.
The jury, comprised of experienced film professionals from the Dominican Republic and abroad, is beginning its task of choosing the 11 semi-finalists whose names will be announced on November 11. The synopses and technical specifications of the 50 selected films can be viewed on the Festival webpage at: http://www.drglobalfilmfestival.org/drgff2010/www/cortos.asp.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be announced on Sunday November 21, the final night of the 4th Dominican Republic Global Film Festival in the National Theater. The first place winner will be shown at this event.
The films of the 11 semi-finalists will be shown throughout the entire Festival in the various host cities and Festival venues prior to each featured film, thus giving the viewing public a chance to see the work of these young Dominican filmmakers.
The time period for entering this short film competition was between June 15th and September 15, 2010.
Last year at the first edition of the competition, 32 films entries were accepted and there was only one winner chosen. Last year’s first place winner was Pedro de Bella Vista and His Dream which was shown this year at the “New York International Latino Film Festival (NYLIFF).”
In keeping with the competition’s rules and regulations, the short film entries must be no more than 15 minutes long. The established genre categories are: fiction, animation, documentary and fantasy.
The first prize winner will receive a video camera, a scholarship to study in
Los Angeles and make a short film there under the auspices of the Dominican film
production company Panamericana. The second prize winner will receive an iMac
and the third prize winner will receive an iPad.
Competition rules and regulations can be viewed in detail at the Festival
