Winner of Dominican Short Film Competition to be Shown in New York at Latino
Film Fest
Santo Domingo, May 26 - 2010
The “New York International Latino Film Festival (NYLIFF)” will show “Pedro de Bella Vista y su sueño,” the winner of the Short Films Competition, part of the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival. The NYLIFF will take place from July 27 to August 1st.
The “New York International Latino Film Festival (NYLIFF)” will show “Pedro
de Bella Vista y su sueño,” the movie film that took first prize in this year’s
Short Films Competition of the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF).
The NYLIFF, to be held from July 27 to August 1st , will host Rodrigo
Montealegre’s film, which won first prize out of a list of 31 short films.
Montealegre’s film tells the story of Pedro, a shoeshine boy, who has a dream of
one day making a movie. The film is a series of conversations and discussions
Pedro has with a film student about how to make his dream come true.
A recent graduate of New York’s Bard College, Rodrigo Montealegre returned to
the Dominican Republic to be part of the film revolution going on there. Since
he was a young boy, Rodrigo knew he wanted to be a filmmaker in his homeland
where he was inspired by the enormous variety of local Dominican characters and
situations.
Among the goals of the New York International Latino Film Festival (NYLIFF) is
to give young filmmakers like Rodrigo, from Latin America as well as the United
States, the opportunity to undertake audiovisual projects that express and
reflect the lives and feelings of Latin America.
The goal of the Short Films Competition of the Dominican Global Film Festival (DRGFF)
is to promote the Dominican short film industry and provide incentives for the
creation and development of local productions while stimulating and enriching
the country’s film culture.
The competition was also conceived to support the nation’s film community, to
provide Dominican professionals with the opportunity to form networks and to
increase the visibility of local productions among the national and
international film community.
