DRGFF attends SXSW Film Conference and Festival
New York, March 12 - 2010
Senior officials from Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF),
Semiramis de Miranda and Asunción Sanz, teamed up to attend, for the very first
time, the innovative South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival.
SXSW, as it also known, is a unique and interesting combination of film and
music festivals, and conferences named interactive, that have taken place every
Spring in Austin, TX since 1987.
This internationally acclaimed, nine-day Festival, whose catchphrase is;
“Tomorrow Happens Here”, celebrates raw and emerging talent, and contains a
lively, diverse, independent program ranging from provocative documentaries to
subversive Hollywood comedies.
Although music event offerings get most of the attention, in the last decade the
film component has emerged as an exciting destination in its own right. Over 250
films were screened this year, including high profile world premiers like
Kick-Ass and informative panels featuring the likes of directors, Quentin
Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez.
SXSW panels and conversations, just as at the DRGFF, are as worthwhile as the
films they present, where the movers and shakers in their respective fields
share the secrets of their genre within the film industry.
DRGFF’s visit to the Festival offered the team a genuine opportunity to search
for new ideas incorporating films with interactive sessions, where software,
hardware and search engine companies monitor the presentations of start-ups and
their latest developments in audiovisual production and other outlets.
DRGFF is an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD)
and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE)
will take place November 16-22, 2010 in the Dominican Republic.
