(Nagua, October 17, 2012) - Gonzalo Justiniano’s Has Anyone Seen Lupita? will be the first in a series of feature films to be screened in Nagua as part of the 6th edition of the Dominican Global Film Festival (FCGD), Fest Director Omar de la Cruz told a press conference on Wednesday at the Regional University Center of Nagua (CURNA). Mr. De la Cruz called the film among the best that will be shown at this year’s Festival.
"This movie started off as an experiment and what a good one, you’ll see. It is in Spanish so you’ll really get the message of it,” said the FCGD Director.
“The enthusiasm in Nagua is so great that everything undertaken here ends in success. We don’t find people with such good will in all the places we go,” said Mr. de la Cruz. He reiterated that Nagua residents usually attend the opening as well as the closing of the Film Fest in Santo Domingo, which provides them with the necessary logistical tools for the event.
The gala opening in Nagua will take place on the night of November 15, said De la Cruz, adding that Ellis Pérez, Director General of Film in the DR, will represent the FCGD at this event. De la Cruz noted that this Festival ,and culture in general, have taken on a great deal of importance in Nagua.
Other activities to be held in Nagua include the Actor's Studios, which are conversations with well-known national and international actors and, on this occasion, will include the Dominican-American actor, Luis José López who, according to Mr. de la Cruz, “won’t just walk in one door and out the other but will stay right here and share with attendees, including members of the press from here.”
For his part, CURNA Rector, Ramón Enrique Amparo, said it was an honor for the university and the province of María Trinidad Sánchez to be providing a venue for the Festival’s screenings. He agreed that Nagua residents are eagerly awaiting the Film Festival, which he referred to as “a cultural event of great importance.”
The FCGD is bringing to the DR and Port au Prince a series of high quality films that have already been lauded at other prestigious international film festivals. The Festival also provides unique opportunities for learning, professional training and the creation of networks for the general public as well as for industry professionals through the various panels and workshops that form part of the Festival program.

Throughout the Festival, the eleven finalists of the 4th Dominican Short Films Contest will be shown at all venues. The films are: "Prisionero 614", "Subterráneo", "El primer día", "Un pacto con la soledad", "El Fotógrafo", "Talion", "Mirada de payaso", "Amor en vano", "Desobediencia", "Sofia" and "Dago".
As has been the case since the very first Dominican Global Film Festival, we continue to rely on the help of dozens of volunteers who take on the tasks of organization and logistics alongside the FUNGLODE team, collaborators and sponsors.
FCGD organizers also took the opportunity to acknowledge support from the Embassy of Germany; Spain (through the Spanish Agency for International Development); Switzerland; the United State (through the Franklin Center) and the Dominico-German Center and Goethe Institute.
