The Dominican Republic Global Film Festival Opens Its 7th Edition In Puerto Plata With Snow White
(Santiago, Wednesday October 16, 2013) . – The Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (FCGD) announced in this city the opening of its 7th edition on Wednesday November 13th at 6:30 pm in the Atlantic Regional University Center (CURA ) with a parade of stars for the screening of the film Snow White.
FCGD Director Omar de la Cruz made the announcement along with the Deputy Minister of Culture Rene Merete; the Governor of Puerto Plata Eridania Llibre, and Roman Racero Lantigua, director of CURA.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland are guests of honor at the new edition of the FCGD. De la Cruz said that the 2013 Festival will have screening venues in the Atlantic Regional University Center (CURA), at the House of Culture and at the Marina Grand Paradise on Amhsa Beach.
He also invited journalists to apply for press accreditation through the festival’s website: www.festivaldecineglobal.org .
Snow White has won 10 Goya awards in 2013. The film is a black and white adaptation of the eternal fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, but with a bullfight as a thematic difference. The silent film, which is a black and white expressionist piece, an example of Paul Berger’s virtuous directing classic skills, is a triumph of true cinema, inventive popular culture and Iberian poetry.
The producers are Ibon Cormenzana, Jerome Vidal; and the cast is made up of Maribel Verdú, Daniel Giménez Cacho, Angela Molina, Pere Ponce, Macarena Garcia, Sofía Oria, Ramón Barea, Emilio Gaviria, and Sergio Dorado.
The Festival will feature leading artists of cinema as well as directors and filmmakers. The managers indicated that in the coming weeks they will reveal which stellar figures will illuminate the carpets at the opening ceremonies. More details:
-Admission to the screenings will be free of cost in Nagua, Santiago and Puerto Plata.
-There will be a Global Pass at a cost of RD$1,500 that will give access to all film screenings.
-With support from the Ministry of Education, primary and secondary students will enjoy the festival films in morning sessions, and university students will also attend.
